Detail of Each Service

ThoughtBirds backs up your site on a schedule decided by you. We make sure that you’ve always got a recent backup of both your database and your whole site so that whether you make a small editorial mistake and want to restore your database, or your site gets hacked, you’ve always got an appropriate backup to revert to. Your backups are first made locally (on your server), and then sent off-site to a secure S3 bucket. Then the local backup is deleted, to stop your server from getting overloaded with backup files. If needed, access to your S3 backup folder can be provided. And if you need to restore from a backup, we will do it on a high priority request.
Having your site infected with malware is one of the moments we all fear. However, in addition to proactive measures, like securing your site (every client gets a security review, free of charge), malware scanning helps to find troublesome code on your site. We scan regularly for malware and once we identify it, we can discuss the best way to go about removing it.
Development time allows you to have someone intimately familiar with Magento/WordPress work on your site, for whatever you choose. Perhaps you want something as simple as reorganizing some content for you, or perhaps you need some DNS changes made, or a new feature added to your site, or fix some bugs. Whatever it is, you’ll have a time allowance every month to have one of our expert work on your site.
Updates are the key to keeping your site secure. Updates close loopholes and security flaws that have been uncovered, so making sure that they get installed regularly is critical to making sure that you aren’t leaving vulnerabilities available to be exploited. You also get the added bonus of cool new features. ThoughtBirds recommend updates at least once a week, and more often if your site is a bit more critical.
If you don’t visit your site that often, or you just don’t know what to look for, it can be helpful to have a knowledgeable expert looking over both the front-end of your site and the back-end, pro-actively looking for issues and ways to improve your site. If you’d find the regular review of an expert pair of eyes useful, then you might consider adding “eyes on your site” to your maintenance plan, as a proactive way of keeping your site in tip-top shape.

Why Should I Pay Someone to Maintain my Magento/Wordpress Website?

There are three main reasons why someone would want to pay someone to maintain their website: this involves doing the mundane tasks that need to be done to keep WordPress/Magento current, secure and backed up, so that your site remains online.

1. Knowledge

The first reason might be that you just don’t know how to maintain WordPress or Magento. Getting your site online is one thing, but keeping it there, and keeping it safe is quite another. If you haven’t got a clue how to upgrade WordPress or Magento, or back up your content and your database, then having someone do this task for you is well worth the small expense.

2. Expertise

Even if you know a little bit about WordPress or Magento, you might not have the confidence that, if something went wrong, you could quickly and confidently repair the issue so that there’s no impact to your site. Have you ever heard of the white screen of death? Have you ever had an automatic plug-in upgrade fail? Would you know what to do in these situations? If not, it’s worthwhile having someone on hand who knows these issues inside out, that can quickly fix them, so that you experience as little downtime as possible.

Additionally, someone who really knows what they’re doing will be vigilant and have a watchful eye every time they visit your site, to look for errors and bottlenecks that might be causing issues for your site, as we at ThoughtBirds do.

3. Money

Your time is extremely valuable, as is ours. We’re very good at what we do, which is why we can do it particularly fast. If you don’t know your way around Magento too well, it might take you a lot longer to perform these tasks. That’s time spent away from doing what you do best. And how much can you earn doing what you do? Probably more than the small fee that we charge to maintain your site.

That’s why it makes sense to outsource the maintenance of your WordPress site. You get several hours of your life back every month to concentrate on earning more money, which will exceed the small fee you pay to someone like us to work on your site. It’s plain economics.
